Our Story

*Mill Houses were erected in Ranlo 1920s and 1930s and still stand today. At the time, they were owned by the mill and rented at very low rates to workers.

North Carolina has a significant place in the historic textile manufacturing corridor of the United States. Meridian Specialty Yarn Group (a privately owned manufacturing group) has been a part of that community for over 30 years. Our commitment has always been to quality, innovation and of course, investment in the future and our community. A worsted spinning mill, we are a leader in domestic hand-knitting and weaving yarn production with specialties in dyeing and novelty spinning.

Traditionally a supplier of long staple yarns to larger branded yarn companies, as of January 2020, Meridian Specialty Yarn Group is now able to share a carefully curated line of un-dyed yarns with our small business community through the new online Meridian Mill House Yarn Shop.

Designed with the craft dyer in mind, the Mill House Yarn Shop focuses on using natural fibers that can easily be dyed with acid and/or reactive dyes. Wherever possible, these fibers are sourced through U.S. suppliers – providing a product that is both U.S. grown and U.S. spun. (Visit our Fiber Facts page for detailed information on our different fibers.)

In addition to the classic yarns you would expect from an experienced mill (3-ply worsted, wool yarns), we are always searching out more luxurious and exotic fiber blends from around the world to create yarns you can’t get anywhere else!
